為了提高學校的教學水平，根據新州政府支持的擬議法案，教育專業准入學分數將提高到至少70分，在大學期間教育專業的學生也需要保持平均70分的成績。未來的教師可能會發現進入大學更加困難。
據每日電訊報報道，新州教育廳長Sarah Mitchell表示，她支持制定嚴格的新標準，但將視具體操作細節為準，她也並未透露如何以及何時執行建議。
新州一國黨領袖Mark Latham說，由於鑒於學生在國際學生評估項目（PISA）的表現不斷變差，而且NAPLAN分數很低，學校需要採取緊急行動。「如果政府表示支持這項計劃，我會在未來的哦七年里負責監管這項計劃，確保政府不只是支持這項計劃，而是能夠實施下去。這些建議都是很好的，提高進入教師職業的群體的素質是相當不錯的開始。」
據報道，獨立研究中心教育政策研究員Glenn Fahey對提高分數的建議表示歡迎，但他說，在大學期間還需要做更多工作，以更好地培養教師。「我們必須研究的真正問題是，我們在大學三到四年里教學的內容。」
新南威爾士大學二年級學生Rebecca Gismondo說，將 ATAR分數提高至70分，將那些在學校的表現不佳，而且把教學專業作為後備選擇的學生排除在外，她支持提高入學門檻，但大學應該特殊考慮那些對教育有激情但分數沒有達到門檻的人。
報告中也提到的有關對學校開放教室策略的有效性進行緊急審查的建議，新州政府對此表示支持，並將於2021年進行審查，以確保設施的建設是為了提供最佳教育。
